AKSHITALU

Indian weddings are colourful; and telugu weddings are known for their rituals that could last up to sixteen days of festivities. These days the weddings are done in a session or two, because of time constraints, among other things, which include financial limitations; imagine doing a 16 day wedding today; the expenditure would shoot through the roof, in all probability.

Akshataalu ceremony is one of the colourful rituals and fun for the family; it is noisy and a kind of getting comfortable with each other sequence for the bride and the groom.

In this Akshataalu or Taalambraalu ceremony, the couple exchange garlands first. Then there is a blessing sequence by the elderly, where they will sprinkle flower petals, mostly rose petals along with yellow coloured rice, which is called akshataa, blessing the couple with a life of abundance.

There are also scenes where the couple throw flower petals, paper balls and akshitaalu on each other as part of the festivities. Here are a few lovely captures from some of our events.
